Making Cardiac Care Fair Campaign

Cardiac stents used in angioplasty in India were not FDA approved. They were imported from countries like Korea at cheap costs and sold to the patients at the original costs which was almost three times the cost of purchase. In India, there were no government guidelines on devices which led foreign manufacturers to flood the country’s market with much cheaper products than the approved ones.

The objective of the campaign was to regulate the use of stents by getting a government guideline in place ensuring that the stents imported in the country are all FDA approved.

With the success of the campaign and across multiple media coverage, PRAHAR’s initiative brought the government to pass a regulation on the cardiac stents used in the country making it mandatory for the hospitals to use only FDA approved stents.
